Crouched over and crying
With premonitions of dying
A situation leaving her
Short of breath yet sighing
The poison he’s been drinking
The anger she’s been seeing
Now the hunger intensifies
For the words he’s not speaking
The light of dawn approaches
Yet the pistol he never noticed
A moment lost to darkness
When her love lost its focus
The signs were always there
The scent of blood in the air
Long sleeves and sun shades
Her voice so cracked and scared
Kitchen knives she had lost
Her biggest concern to defrost
Never venturing to that room
Until she couldn’t afford the cost
His world severely shattered
His heart left torn and tattered
A father that never cared
And a life that didn’t matter
His wrists gashed and open
As he lay bleeding and broken
Her heart filled with regret
And three words rarely spoken
The signs were always there
The scent of blood in the air
Long sleeves and sun shades
His voice so cracked and scared
Their bodies begin to shiver
Their voices slowly wither
Nameless numbers on the news
Leaving this taste so bitter
The children crying to the sky
Seeking salvation from their lives
Their tears fall to the earth
Begging for the world to realize
Prayers that leave me bereft
Answers that leave me upset
The bodies continue counting
Until there is nothing left
The signs were always there
The scent of blood in the air
Long sleeves and sun shades
Their voices so cracked and scared
