Fear Part III - 2014

.

A great catastrophe might end all borders between nations. If we are stuck by a great asteroid, have flooding over  90% of the earth due to global warming, or nuclear holocaust, nationality would be without necessity. Perhaps.

The optimist would posit that borders would be meaningless. Helping each other survive would become the work of each day and contacting the survivors to bring them to safety would be on everyone's mind. I watch the tv and movie versions of dystopian and utopian post holocaust social structures and pause. "Sunshine" in particular with the sun dying and the world frozen - to live underground and all the living things on the surface gone is an excellent example of the ultimate event. For lack of one important life preserving element, heat, the world becomes another lifeless planet eventually. That is a soul sobering thought. We may not end ourselves afterall.

Distraction is what entertainment is for the majority of the viewing audiences via tv, movies, computer, and please don't forget U-Tube. Never before has so much information been available to so many at the touch of a few keys. This is miraculous and democratizing and educating millions. Now that's what I call a giant leap for woman kind. And children and men, of course too. It may not save us, but it will gain us an era or two, if we can contain our fear reflexes and retributive tendencies.

The truth is, no one can predict the actions of human existance units under that kind of stress. If one group has bigger guns, the tendency to form heirarchies (master-slave demographics) might (or rather most assuredly will) become the new evolutionary process. Burn the books and computers and scratch will be the new starting place. We are so sad that way, opportunitist, greedy and so on and so on, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. We imgine utopia, we dream of it, and underneath we fear our faith has serious drawbacks with so many weapons of potentially all human destruction in the world. Heaven or Nirvana or the beyond death of your choice, comes into play when faced with that much failure of men and nature (note women and children are blameless under these scenarios because they will play the I need protection card big time). If we ended all guns, bombs, nukes, knife like implements, someone would discover a way to kill effectively some other oway. It's our unavoidable nature because death is feared and paranoic thinking (or insane humans) will be creative enough always to find the means to destroy. If you have seen The Chinese Connection, or any Vin Diesel flick, you know this. We try to bury these self-evidences about ourselves to diminish fear reactions and terror at the psychological level of the masses, but let something important collapse, say the world economy, and see what sheep look up and who they blame. That is truly something to fear, an event to be avoided because those blamed would run and control all means of production and recoverey potential would be dead for generations. Not kill all the lawyers, kill all the intellectuals. The "Now let's be reasonable" crowd would be shot at first utterance.

Survivalists beware. One small leap by  we-kind will find you and bomb you and take your stuff. Fear of theft is an entire dissertation topic. Pacifist me, I will find you and take your stuff. Survival is a bastard, a bitch, and then it turns into the root of evil, cunning, and creative methodologies for the most dastardly and desparate kinds of success. To survive is wired into the brain. Safe? No one and nothing.

Our children should be smarter than us (we are). I hope they are wiser and less weak. To ask yourself, "What scares me the most?" brings forth a pretty self-defining answer. Apart from the obvious, guns, death by accident, war bombs, poisoning...on a deeper psychological level threats actually are evident in much more efficient guises. Hunger is huge when there is famine, the Ebola spread has everyone finally thinking time to allocate all the resources there are to contain this scourge. The New Black Death, a horrible way to go' organs liquifying. My answer would include death from Ebola. Contracting AIDS or a deadly bacteria is pretty awful and makes the list as well. I would fear death by fire. I am, therefore, very careful with lighters and matches and candles. I no longer walk in the rain for fear of being killed by nature. Ways to die tragically are as varied as the individuality of humans and their imaginations. What ifs surround us and are poised at any moment to be born into our lives as what the Hells! Pompeii's volcano, Rome, the Trade Towers, Napolean, Hitler, World War I & II & III, the usual suspects.

What to fear in such a wide open global communion of minds and hearts? I heard that the ozone layer is mending itself due to the moritorium on aeresal (can't spell arisole) cans and other measures regarding industrial emissions. We may freeze but we won't burn to death totally or at least not in the near future. Do you fear the absence of the substances we are addicted to like water and air? The loss of the quality of those drugs, like safe food, is something to totally fear. Hallowed ground is a concept we seem to have mislain. If we respect the earth, even worship it as first world cultures did long ago and are attempting to revise in the thinking of their descendents, we might stave off pollutability everywhere. (Oh that was sooooo much a positive generality.) Someone whould find a way to exploit it, sell it, own it, horde it, or destroy the movement as our human error faculties dictate. Dreaming is for sleep, reality can be treacherous if left to its own devices.

Earth has enormous racial diversity. Evolution (if you believe in that sort of thing) has created us from the greatest of diverse culture media, the animal kingdom heirarchies. Class, phyllum, species are some of the scientific divisions and identity markers for the biotic world and that has certainly come up the evolutionary ladder to leap onto the rooftop of human development and growth systems. A civilization divided will stand until it falls inevitably, bye the bye. Corrupted power is the culprit in most projections.

One day, we may be forced to become tolerant of each other, but with the high competition for everything, education, wealth, power, every inch of the nine yards, for some reason homo sapien dynamic dictates someone must be the "enemy" the group to villify and denounce. Right now in the U.S. it's Mexicans, but like all immigrants (and they are currently the fastest growing minority in the U.S.) they will come and come and stay and fight for their place here just like other groups brought here willingly or by force. I think they are welcome. They are beautiful, they are brown, and they speak Spanish. I wish them well here. If I believed in reincarnation, I'd wish for a thousand years and the return of the Great Soul (about Ghandi, saw the movie which was hollywood most likely altering the facts for drama). Results, we now have to deal with Pakistan as a nuclear power. If reincarnated, Ghandi is surely shaking his head thinking, "Didn't see that coming."

Fear wars. We did the storm and freedom thing, then Afghanistan and Iraq (still in Iraq as advisors...hmmmm.) ISIS is the powers that be getting closer and closer to the oil fields. Syria and Islam finally made the list together. Fear the fear of utilizing the full arsenal against the under prepared. Not very good imperialist thinking on our part, we could rule the globe by now. If the warrior commanders and generals were permited by their governments to use some of the stuff on the shelves, war would be obsolete. Most of the world population and half the world's lands would be non-viable, but the war machines would be dismantled. (This is my utopiandream withus winning and the world at bay - hey, like The Boss, I was born in the USA.)

Imagine removing all the soldiers of YOUR SIDE and dropping a million pounds of anthrax or Ebola or the smart bomb that kills the people and does not damage the infrastructure. Imagine how short that war would be.. The new world would be fit at last for democracy (or rather the concept of a republic). Or, maybe in the aftermath, the gods would consult and decide that we are just too much trouble and shut us down.

If the U.S. or Russia or China did that, the neighboring  countries of (THEIR ENEMY'S SIDE) would be up in arms literally and not sell their natural resources like good little exploitationed nations.  I fear the unleashing of that kind of wrath under reactionary politics. You think no one in your government is thinking of that kind of protection/retaliatroy response plan? Naievety can kill too.

As the world leans to the far right, anarchy would be welcome over the mass murder of millions for the acquisition of land, oil, water, diamonds. You say it could never happen. No one anticipated Idi Amin, the lil German orphan with the funny mustache, The Ayatollah, the rise of the Klu Klux Klan, Too big to fail, or Manson. Too busy looking at the contents our our individually apportioned full to bursting bowls of daily responsibilities and tasks to perform. Distraction may ultimately be the impetus for faster global annihilation. Read a book, read a magazine, watch the news, absorb an entire newspaper, talk to a politician, go to (heaven forbid) a political rally. Only you can prevent forest fires.

Moving masses of free thinkers is like trying to herd cattle in ten feet of drifting snow. It would take a miracle or tall the time we have left to thaw and wait for the weather to stop precipitating at minum. Governments use mass media conditioning to "inform" their consituencies, news speads the message determined valid for the day, but if such resources were trained on educating the same constituencies in literacy and the importance of emotional stability and intellectual acquisition, some of those utopian philosophies might have a prayer. Documentaries try, special broadcast programming tries as well, but what 12 year old is going to watch Oliver Stone when they have music or video games galore as distraction. And not just children.

All that said, fredom is nice, but sometimes it sucks eggs! I'm Just Sayin' .
