Fear Part IV - 2016

.

What does it matter that old fears are still valid and at action; new fears arrive like messengers daily and depend on what the media is allowed (chooses) to publish. War is everywhere, seems. If not outright conflict, bombings and immigration issues over whether bombers are among them. Humaine causes are noteworthy, but when there are personnel ready to profile anyone who looks like an Islamic Terrorist, humainess goes out the proverbial windows like Spanish Speaking Americans in cars that are a little to uppity. They way successful black engineers and doctors and movie stars and rap artists and peace advocates and regular citizens who know how to save are pulled over for being in a car that is obviously stollen.

.

We have a long way to go in educating those who are entrusted with policing us, teaching us, and punishing us for "felonious activities". Prisons are to be feared. The wealthy go to special prisons created for them so that the full experience of class warfare does not touch their protected lives. What a group fears determines allocation of resources apriori. Fear the immoral, fear the unethical, fear everyone until proven trustworthy - a formula for unity if one ever existed.

.

Paranoia is a form of fear that we all experience long or short term at some time in our life span. Fear of everything and every other human is no way to be free. Mental collapse or instillation of negative values create that kind of fear syndrome. There is no cure or conditioning, save amnesia, to erase paranoia (clinical, congenital, nurtured, or self-determined). Looking another person in the eyes is a way to counter the affectations of soul trembling fears, but lonliness and isolation are a plague in great civilizations. We may be looking at "enemies" from outside and forget to examine the potential revolutionary or "upset" citizen within our borders, any borders; personal, national, or international.

.

Fear of being hurt is a defense built in to keep humans alive, but perpetually in fear of all things outside one's self is not a good thing for building cities and communities, nations, and familes. Schools should have "Courage 101" as a mandatory requirement for graduating Elementary School. "Courage 102" for Middle School, and 103 for High School. Paranoia Thinking 101 - 103 at university might help to identify societies ills and help mend them. Hey, I'm a poet, I'm a dreamer.

.

it comes down to opening the eyes and looking around bravely, crossing barriers, and breaking bonds to combat fear in all its articulations. None of the above may make lliving on earth better, but it can't hurt. I'm just sayin' .
