Does owning the largest military aparatus in the history of humans mean that we can go it alone if anyone attacks usa? Again? The international community was apalled by the 911 destruction of the Trade Towers and usa citizens killed and assisted us against (anyone suspect in the Middle East or Northeast Africa). Such horrors hopefully that occur in future will be met with an equal outpouring of support and apalling by usa if EU is "hit".
.
usa is not the only partner from their government's coffers or UN coffers fighting "terrorism". I use quotes because some of this is old vendettas being answered or rationale to continue bombing Syria - most of which has already been flattened and demolished. These acts and actions created the mirgrant crisis and now walls and barriers and turning aways are the response of countries like EU's Turkey and italy. Protecting national identity and national security are several of the reasons behind such international wall politics. Over-taxing (pardon the pun) social welfare resources is another reason. The price of taking in so many with some countries not agreeting to take in any more or any at all is the challenge. Answer: drop more bombs on Syria and, maybe soon, Iran - the lil nation with oil that wants to feed its people under the horror of us sanctions that say they can not sell their oil). Okay. Let's hear it for Trump 2020.
.
We could go it alone, but our information collection apparatus would be dismantled from EU countries and our operatives would have no home bases to operate from as spies and agents for the Pentagon. UN would not be much help if the dollar stops supporting world commerce. That's a problem. Embassies might be asked to withdraw; usa please break of diplomatic ties with us because the foreign aid was discontinued - like that. With multi-billion dollar military budgets, we are pretty safe. So we assume. Heads are rolling at Homeland Security because (perhaps because) of disagreements with the white house on how to protect the country. Nationalism as a philosophy at the Pentagon is not popular (pardon the pun).
.
We gave billions to the military and they want to remain autonomous and "consult with the white house" on matters of national security versus being dictated to on what they better do for the Don. It's a tangle. Exit Mattis, a four star general, beloved of the national security community and revered by usa citizens. Enter Russia moving on a blockade of Ukraine.
.
Come on Mueller. February is not all that far away but the stock market does not like the Syrian and Afghanistan withdrawal; too much invested in the war industry you guys, eh? Tariffs are disrupting Wall Street predictions for world trade with usa and a dampening affect is at action currently. That's a double hit. A treble hit could finish us (as in attack Iran). If we don't rally--please reference 2008 and the international monetary crisis that almost toppled finance structures and banks world-wide. Hm.... It is hard to predict the future, but it is looking hazy.
.
A brighter note: EU is banning one time use plastic prodicts. billions of tons of plastic and particulates can be eradicated from the seas by such a measure. Imagine no more k-cups, no straws, no bottles for pop, no coffee stirrers. Pop tops would be discontinued and no more frozen veggie bags. The world has to change for the world to change I guess.
.
Speaking of hazy, forecast for Michigan just before Christmas: cloudy, rain, and hazy hovering around freezing. aka no snow, no white Christmas. :(
