.
I turned into a old lady
clock, but ma mind forgot
to tell me. Turned older
than ma chimes. So, why
didn't end of time tell me?
The bell tolled too loud,
knelled like some old city clock.
Tell me why ain't nobody say
somethin'? That sound gave
me a shock!
.
Dust fallin' on my afro head,
I said I already been 'round
the block. Don't tell me
to stop walkin' I'm tickin' to ma
own tock. Mortar's crackin',
bricks start fallin', guess
it's time to turn the key
in ma old rusty-gritty lock.
.
I hear the echo of a church bell,
can feel the vibration, I know what
it tells. I lift ma nappy head to heed
the callin', it sets you to shiverin' when
Liberty knells. What's that jigglin'
in ma pocket sound like tenpenny
rusted nails?
