I could hear birds,
(only for seconds)
just a few
giving me songs,
taking away from reality.
I collect broken branches,
(only for hours)
of the tree trunk
they once called home.
I could see the sky change,
(for days and nights)
transform, expand, and breathe,
into colors
I sought only in dream.
The clouds tell me
(for what I wished
was more than just minutes)
of their dresses they'd wear
for me, and only me,
and for my eyes to feast.
I could feel the sand
(for miles and paths)
hold on to my feet,
with his rough hands,
(his soft lips); seducing me
for just another step.
The sea cries for me
(with crashing angst)
as my hands no longer believe
in his touch... his enticing skin.
I ask my myself
(for what it seems an eternity, and nothing)
if they were truly with me,
or (what my heart dreads)
if I chose to abandon them.
Exchanging friends
for silence.
