Every weekend we go visit my grandparents. Every time we come around, my grandfather is not there. Not yet. Pass time by, as we speak with grandmother he then comes into the kitchen, dragging his feet and in PJ’s in the afternoon. Grandfather always eat his two eggs, his bread with marmalade, his fruit and coffee. By the time he finishes eating, the clock already ticks 6 o’clock. Grandfather sleeps days and wakes at nights. and he always needs the temperature to be twenty one degrees Celsius and low humidity. Grandfather is very responsible about his health. In the 70’s, he used to smoke but that ended as soon as it was discovered that were carcinogens in cigars. But he likes sweet things. You can usually find him eating all kinds of chocolates, ice creams and cookies that are in the house. He loves many things. He really loves skating. He likes the physics of it, the moves, the places and he loves it so much he even designed one in the city. He’s a fan of computers; he has many around the house and knows a lot about them. There’re computers made in the 80’s still working because he takes his time to maintain them. But currently he used a Macbook Pro which he takes everywhere around the house. And he’s very picky about his privacy, so he reads every sentence in each policy in a program. Grandfather knows a lot, I have asked him a thousand questions and have received a thousand answers. I had never been able to find one that he doesn’t know. He usually explains things on napkins and writes rapid calculations all over it that give a fair idea of the real answer. My brother and I can spend an impressive amount of time just listening to all his explanations and stories. Recently, he had been going through family albums, showing us there a photo of an old electricity plant, a old gas tank and many more. And now, after 50 years, he can finally talk about that one time when he was working as a researcher in a secret project during the Cold War. He give up the continuation of his studies because of it. He has yet to talk more about it and he still keeps alot of secrets that he keeps to himself, but he is writing his memories so that later on we can read them and see all the pictures.
