What should I get you brother Dear - I contemplate this day
For now you've marked your 23rd year - This poem is on it's way
You had a rough beginning - With three sisters older than you
But Mom and Dad were OHHH so proud - You made your grand debute
For they had waited many a year - For a son to call their own
To carry on the family name - Now through the years you've grown
But when you were just a little babe - Quite a hefty one I must add
You took those pounds off like "Rocky" - Drinking beer& raw eggs with Grand Dad
Now do you remember that Christmas - In the house on the corner of Vine
When in your walker you went down with a shove - From the one writing these lines
Yes! Jealousy, Hostility - a push or shove here and there
They call it sibling rivalry - Mom nearly pulled out all her hair
Well as the years progressed - And older we did get
We seemed to lighten the fighting - Busy now with new friends we'd met
Do you recall the many times - When homeward bound you'd tread
With all your new found treasures - Buddo's conned you Mom again said
For he could sell you anything - You'd trade or pay his price
These broken treasures to hard to pass - Your mind he did entice
After a few years you finally caught on - That he was taking you
And so your energies then went - to sports, you tried a few
You started on the Pee Wee teams - You were quite a sight to behold
In baseball you played a pretty good game - But in football you weren't very bold
For in football when the ball was snatched - The offense and defense collide
We looked to see where David was - Alone in the backfield we spied
Now your greatest love in sports is known - By all the family
With ball in hand and hoops nearby - There on the courts you'd be
Your love for basketball grew strong - As well as your ability
So in uniform of orange and black - You played M.H.S. varsity
While then in the halls of Murray High - Your eyes did find quite a fox
Your heart went a flutter-your bod turned to butter - Your in love with Kathy Horrocks
After graduation you went to work with your dad - as a Mountain Fuel Supply Co. lad
And there in the rig little holes did you dig - With your funny little red hat on your head
From 9 to 5 you dug holes in the ground - What arrived in the mail was found
Your mission call was to soon leave Utah - Now your Little Rock, Arkansas bound
So now to the Mission Home goes he - To learn how to tract and to teach
With new suits packed & combined books of three - the gospel their hearts to reach
Mom in tears standing there in your wake - Now off on the plane you did race
For now left a boy who would never more be - Cause a man would return in his place
To those at home time passed rather slow - The two years plus you were preaching
Yet for you time sped by on your bike did you try - The LDS gospel your teaching
So on Christmas Eve came you home - With Family and friends gathered there
Now with our attention and all ears a-tune - Your story unfolds like a prayer
Well in March you did take a new step - And asked Kathy to be your bride
The vows were exchanged, temple covenants made - Through eternity side by side
Well a couple of years have now passed - Since those vows exchanged by you two
The love you shared, grew deeper each year - Now new parents in September are Due
Now David this comes from the heart - For I know how blessed you are
That through your faith and love in GOD - Someday you will go far!
