Avoid my gaze
Evade my words
Ignore my very presence
You do not want to know any more about me,
My suffering or the mere blinding inadequacy of my existence
Than which will allow you to traverse it
For there is a peril - a danger
Which comes with familiarity
Bringing a moment of recognition
That imparts the dread knowledge
Of the complete interchangeability
Of our beings - our lives
It is frightening to think that you could be me
By falling heir to my distresses
Or given your opportunities
I could be what you are or even your greatest aspiration
Add the fear that my difficulty could possibly cancel all that you have come to hold dear
Yet no consideration of consequence given to your effect upon my circumstance
The only weight upon the balance is your own and it must not be tilted
So say nothing for I have no expectation that you would speak
As you turn back to your perceived fate
and I will move onward into those possible destinies which are my own
Against the day, should we meet again
To nod at one another in acquaintance
