When Old Man Shoe
flew for the moon
and Gretchen Wears Boots
shoots twisted spoons
you'll know, damn straight,
that Kate'll be late.
But many them chil'ren
are fillin' themselves, screamin',
dreaming of tender, unrended suspenders.
Bread and butter, though handy,
With brandy isn't dandy.
In the junkyard's a callin' the toasters and blenders.
Now Pappa George,
mouth gorged in smorgasbord,
would look up at Mamma and ask, "What is this?"
Little Johnny always knew
someday Pappa would chew
with his mouth closed and his eyes open.
Mamma took flight
threw that bowl out of sight
Old Shaggy chased it down in a flash.
Corn and carrots in the pound,
those dogs took it to town!
Pappa says, "I'ma shoot that dog",
but Johnny just smiles.
