I saw you with your pen stuck between your teeth
Thinking of all the combinations of letters
That might lead to the proper word
Or, at least meet the clue's closest definition
And, as your hand rolled that pen between your teeth
I noticed a ring hadn't met your lonesome finger
And, thought would our kids be left handed
As you filled in boxes after counting the spaces
And, my mind started to wonder even further
As your naked feet swung free from shoes still on the floor beneath you
And, thought how nice it'd be to sit down beside you
And without talking share the moment with you
So, I got up and approached you with a purpose
While I rehearsed what I would say upon my arrival
With turning on the inside and calm on the surface
I said "Hello." though I'm sure you knew I was nervous
I said, "I saw you with your pen stuck between your teeth."
And, you said, "That's a strange way to introduce yourself."
And, we both laughed
After you offered me a seat to sit beside you
And, without a pause or hesitation you asked me,
"What's a seven letter word for 'Providence'?"
I said, "It could be 'Caution.'"
You said, "No, I think it's 'Destiny.'"
