Déjà vu

There were a thousand faces

Two thousand eyes and half as many hearts

A dream of crowed places

Jumping sheep over fences

Puzzle pieces and glimpses of you

Red lips and brown eyes

That read me like a Pulitzer author

And, somehow I knew who

Beautiful déjà vu

Paragraphs and prayers

Written and spoken

Whispered and chosen carefully for your delight

Crumpled and ironed

Paper and confetti

Posted and ready for you to open

I twisted paper covering a straw

Corner booth at a restaurant

And, spoke words my brain already knew I had spoken

As the moment came unwoven

Came a moment so familiar

As I began to labor

If I had truly lived this before

In another restaurant corner

Beautiful déjà vu once again

If another lifetime has been lived

By myself or closest kin

Déjà vu, please show me who

Or how to live that life again
