Years ago in the middle of a dream I was breathing you in
Tears flow into the ripples of a stream and wash white as they blend in
While the riverbed erodes so smooth
I imagine the way you’d move when we were still young
I can feel the doors opening that were closed
How were we to know that years down the road
We would once again see the sight
In each other’s eyes from so long ago
Surprising, to say the least
The way life goes
Blistering our burdened feet
Upturning every stone
For the innocence of that first love
Here I go again, trying to tame my presumptuous tongue
Call it my favorite sin, recalling how sweet and innocent we were young
While the grass spoke so green of our minds
After out broken hearts tried their best to put behind a time impossible to forget
But, I will never forget the way your brown hair blended into mine
How your fingers kept mine warm
Or, how your smile took me to better days
Surprising, to say the least
The way life goes
Blistering our burdened feet
Upturning every stone
For the innocence of that first love
