Reasons why, I can’t decipher
Through the smoke I think I see you
Like an ember floating from the fire
And I wonder, if your lonelier now, than you were
And I wonder now, why you wander so far from warmth
As if there was something more
Lately, I pray that though you haven’t come down
That when you do, I’ll be around to catch you
Do you know something I don’t
Are you wiser beyond years than anyone thought
Are you scared when you’re not strong
Or do you just take it in stride
And say to yourself: “It’s only life. I’ll get by.”
Like in the old days, wide-eyed
We thought we knew all there was to know
Unaware of the passing signs
As we were lightly covered in the falling snow
We missed the chance to fall in love
Sometimes I think you did ignite that light inside of me
Sometimes I wonder if the stones ever threw my spark toward you
Did they, and you’re just not saying
Do you know something I don’t
Are you wiser beyond years than anyone thought
Are you scared when you’re not strong
Or do you just take it in stride
And say to yourself: “It’s only life. I’ll get by.”
