Open Season

Gotta find love, it's open season

No holding back, there's just no reason

I've got to believe in my heart

And know that it's all I've got to believe in

Right as the undercurrent swept me out against my will

I filled my lungs with breath and hoped my heart stayed still

And, hoped that no one would notice my struggle

So I didn't, for fear of causing a ripple on the surface

Cause, I couldn't let them see I wasn't perfect

But, all the hiding did was make me nervous

Until I realized it wasn't worth the hiding at all

I took a leave-of-absence from love

But, the vacation wasn't what I needed to set my heart right

No, it's never enough until it's gone

And never appreciated until it's out of sight

Somewhere on the horizon coaxing you to life

And coaxing you to come back as fast as you can run

Gotta find love, it's open season

No holding back, there's just no reason

I've got to believe in my heart

And know that it's all I've got to believe in

It's a funny cliche, but now that my eyes are open

It's not hard saying that hope did its job of hoping

The entire time knowing what it was doing

And, the entire time, me doubting what its plan was

Flying so high I couldn't see where the land was

And dipping so low, the trench began to feel like home

Unable to resist mortaring walls of stone to keep me safe

I looked to the street for all my answers

But, the avenue was determined to ignore my inaudible

So, I began to let the pain escape out

Like a torrential rain flash flooding a barren meadow

After years of drought, in valleys where water forgot to flow

I began to taste life again so sweetly in my mouth

Gotta find love, it's open season

No holding back, there's just no reason

I've got to believe in my heart

And know that it's all I've got
