Hot nights like this

Remind me of last August

Lying in the dark

Putting faith in every flicker of the cosmos

Cause I was tired of being alone

So tired of being small and unknown



And in a prayer I felt you tell me

You could feel me like no one ever has

And in the same line you said, hold on

Stay strong, and innocence will bring you to me



Year later, time is still ticking

Slowly and surely

The minute hand is still spinning

Burning patience straight through me

Yet if I never complete the test

I’ll never know what’s out there for me

And I don’t want to take that chance



And in a prayer I felt you tell me
