I couldn’t believe what she said

As she turned around and walked away

Listen here, she said, if you’re not saying anything

How am I supposed to know how you feel

How am I supposed to feel like I’m needed here

And more importantly

How am I supposed to love you when you don’t love yourself



To be honest, the only thing I heard was

“You don’t love yourself”

And for the first time I knew something had to give



Expectation fell then and there

And something inside of me broke

Something inside of me awoke

And I knew that I had to change



And as I lie here in bed. it’s dark

It’s solemn but there’s a spark of hope

And without thinking my hands find themselves together

And all I can see is myself, all I can say to myself is pray



Condescension fell then and there

And something inside of me broke

Something inside of me awoke

And I knew that I was changing



It was what you could call my moment of truth

When for the first time I saw myself in you



Pride fell then and there

And something inside of me broke

Something inside of me awoke

And I knew that this is what I’d been missing
