A Girl In The Seat Right Next To Me

Folder:
The Present

Junior year was unbelievable

A girl in the seat right next to me

And sometime between the hard laughs and fights

I could see love in our foreseeable future

Man, I learned so much that year

It’s two kids learning to care for one another

It’s “American Child” and “Complicated”

It’s the first kiss and breath on the window

That reminds me of the winter I fell in love for the first time

Senior year came and went so fast

With both of us knowing the other was gone

In a few months it was up to us to make it on our own

We could both see that the road was splitting

And we thought it was best to let go

It’s two kids learning to let go of one another

It’s “Red Ragtop” and “You’ll Think of Me”

It’s the last look I took in my rearview mirror

That reminds me of that summer I left home still in love

We thought it was best at the time to let go

But if I could do it all over again

Instead of just saying “I love you.”

I’dve said “Please don’t let go... of my hand.”

It’s two kids learning to care for one another

It’s two kids learning how to let go

It’s you and me falling in and away from love

That reminds me of when I began to live for someone other than me

Junior year was unbelievable

A girl in the seat right next to me
