They Come Changed
Will they come back changed?
I'm sure they will
If for nothing else
these men
as well as women
will come back knowing
that life is too brief
and too complicated
to take the
little things for granted
They will come back to
distinctly recognize the
fragrance of their woman
and
the scent of their man
They will come back
to acknowledge the simplicities
of life and of living
like
that quaint walk through that
lush beautious park
and that intimate small talk
spoken just a little after dark
They will come back to notice
the once unnoticeable
like the way eyes well up
just before the tears formulate to
drip
drop
They will come back to wipe all this away
when they may never have caught it
any
other
day
They will come back to
engage in childish play
with their precious jewels
b/cuz they have
held
the little ones
sometimes with bloody yet forgiving hands
b/cuz they have
seen
the little ones
wither so easily
They will come home to make
PB&J'S
build forts with antique blankets
and
sing silly songs
while they see
the joy
and
hear the laughter
that they may have
overlooked
and underplayed
They will come home
and
rest comfortably
truly feeling
the softness of pillows
and
secure warmth from cottony blankets
They will come home
and
look differently at
YOU
and
ME
and
APPRECIATE
the
billowy clouds
and
willowy trees
They will come back
to really savor their fare
and to take pride in their wares
and
know things that
WE
will never know
having seen things that
WE
will never see
They will come back
and appreciate
ALL LIFE
b/cuz they experienced
1st bloody hand
and
know
just how quickly it can
