She looks to the sky,
crimson tears falling like rain.
He left her here,
alone and lost,
beaten by the cold,
broken by the dark.
Trying to feel anything,
punishing herself, every kiss of the blade,
every tear he can’t wipe away.
His voice no longer in her memory,
his presence always in her heart.
She feels his touch,
gentle on her shoulder.
A soft embrace,
a kiss upon the cheek,
she can almost see him.
She hangs her head,
letting her tears fall,
and he sits with her in the cold.
Warmth fills her,
as he hugs her tightly,
silently her fears are chased away.
Quietly she whispers into the night,
“I’m lost without you here.”
He smiles softly,
as tears fall from his eyes too.
His answer whispers in her heart,
as he lightly wipes her eyes.
She replies quietly,
with a broken heart,
“I love you too.”
Each night comes empty,
and he always sits with her,
till dawn, when he goes once again.
Her love for him follows her,
unspoken in words across her skin,
scarlet letters, blood seeping in.
How can love be so sweet,
when by daybreak, she’s alone again.
Trying to find solace,
to let love fill her heart,
not to go cold from his absent embrace.
Missing him with every breath,
loving him with every tear,
he holds her close, says the words,
she’ll never hear.
