Purple roses
The taste of green stem
Sliding off the teeth
Saving the bitter taste
For sweet lips to kiss
You only gather purple flowers
The others are passed by
Just colors through a window
The wind blows them against
The glass
Thrumming the air
With voices that only sing
I like these days
Sleeping in the sun
Like two cats
Locked out of the house
To become two bum strays
Jazzing from one life to the next
In the space of three
We trace our way down the yellow boardwalk
And look in all the windows
You like the ones we can't afford, best
Some groovy tune
Is romanticising the walkway
Making you believe this tropical paradise
Is everything it is
And that two in love
Can do anything
We go dancing
On cracked stone
Where the sand couldn't be kept out
And the lights hanging above
Are fluttering and some of them only dried up bulbs
We go home
And you make love to me
And then we lie together
And your side makes all the noise
That sweet whispering lullabye
Of your soft snores of dreamy peace
And the vase lined with hand-picked purple flowers
From me
To you
