my daily poem april 5, 2004

Alimony, a relationship broken

Down to dollars and cents,

A month-end envelope that

Comes with your nonchalant driver

Giving me the slight,

Your daughter all excited

About "Daddy's money"

And her next date with you;

If only she really knows

What this all means to me.

A stab in the heart

That takes only a woman

In the same situation to fathom.

All the dollars, each note

Each cent are bitter pills

Revolting against my system;

Our earlier conviction

Of ourselves being lovers

Made in heaven trivialised

To nothing more than an indignity sealed in red
