Why can’t I ever go the distance?
And jump into the sun?
Or work until tomorrow
To get the job done?
Why can’t I ever run as far?
As my mind wants to take me
But when I am done
The finish I still can’t see?
Why can’t I ever get the score?
As high as one can get?
Why can’t I ever complete the circle?
Or get the perfect set?
Why can’t I ever throw the ball?
As far as I can see?
Why can’t I ever work as hard?
To get to where I want to be?
Why do I work so hard?
Just to come up short?
Why can’t I ever finish the game?
Or that old half built fort?
Why can’t I ever do that lil bit extra?
To get me so far ahead?
Why does my body look alive?
But feels as if it’s dead?
Why can’t I crawl that extra foot?
Or run that extra mile?
Why does my face always frown?
And not show that full blown smile?
Why can’t my heart ever love someone?
For all eternity?
Why can’t I ever do the deed?
To make a better me?
Why can’t I ever go the distance?
And jump into the sun?
For if I make it there someday
In life I have won!
