Since Facebook is no longer personal or special as it may have been in 2002 maybe hand mail will make a come back if enough people want to connect on a deeper level without speaking face to face. But how do you spark that? Send a random card without it being a special occasion.
Perhaps I have to send one out first. I’d write something along the lines of “Hey, I just wanted to remind you that when I think of you (which is very often, lately) I smile. Thank you for that.” And then the person I send that to will be so endeared that not only will they respond with extreme gratitude, but they will show their friends and family, and then their friends and family will think of me as an endearing letter sender. And then maybe they will send me a letter complimenting my great wit and charming personality.
Then instead of complimenting them back, like they may hope, I’d ask a question to further the relationship between us, like “How is your Mother doing?” or “Have you tried this awesome recipe Oprah recommended?” Then, judging upon how enthused they choose to be from my mundane question, I’ll further the letter sending with a mixture of questions and compliments. Maybe even throw in an inspirational quote once I’ve won their trust through my well thought out hand written words. I could even begin to write in cursive to all the people who later begin to send me personal greetings.
Then what if everyone communicated through letters and mouths were only meant for chewing food and gasping in surprise.
The world would be full of anticipation on Sundays
And anticipation is…
