Kids in Buildings

Hideaway

Night and day

Unsafety play

No windows

The doors are locked

Is it living?

Flora and fauna

Intangible

Black tunnel pinhole light

At the end

If you can make it there

Somewhere are kids in buildings

Awaiting the future

Prepared for the time

Of policemen

Who are only doing their jobs

We are told

Who has been failed?

Is an answer necessary?

For kids in buildings

No it's not

Hidden faces

Forgotten names

Come Christmastime

A stocking's all you have

There in the dark

Together alone

Author's Notes/Comments:

There are thousands of homeless children in America, kicked out of their houses.  Their crime?  Being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered.  Some of them find their way to illegal safehouses, where they are sheltered until they turn 18.  This is their story.
