Raising the Bar
The other day I found out some disturbing news
It put me in a little funk, it's giving me the blues
The news concerns a man, my synagogue's Rabbi
Don't know him very well, he seems a decent guy
He was doing something that was so beyond the pale
They wouldn't tell him face to face, notified him by email
The email said 'Your presence at our synagogue is no longer required
If that isn't clear enough, we're telling you, you're fired'
What had the Rabbi done to cause the loss of his job?
There's an account for donations, from this account did he rob?
No, I'm gonna tell you, but before I do
There's a couple of things I must explain to you
There's a Jewish word 'mitzvah', a word that means 'good deed'
To do a 'mitzvah' is a very good thing indeed
They found what the Rabbi was doing, may be hard to believe
He was going to bar mitzvahs! So, of course, he had to leave!
