GRIEF DOESN'T ANNOUNCE
ITSELF ANYMORE
It used to.
It used to arrive like a wave
and take everything with it.
Now it just slips in quietly.
A familiar smell.
A song that wasn't even yours.
A stranger laughing
the way you used to laugh.
And suddenly I'm not here anymore.
I'm somewhere else entirely.
Back in a moment
I didn't know I was memorizing.
That's what nobody tells you
about the long grief.
It gets quieter.
But it never gets smaller.
It just learns to fit inside your
regular days.
