Early Stars (Fable)

At the beginning of time, when the universe was created, only three different types of animal species used to live on Earth. The first had a long beak, strong wings to withstand the winds at high altitudes, short legs to stand on any tree of its choice and a powerful agile vision; the second one was a four feet animal that firmly hitted the ground when walking, it had an overdeveloped nose and strong teeth and claws that could tear; the third had scaly skin, was very fast and, compared to the previous ones, could only breathe underwater, had gills and was very flexible. They were all different but they were true friends. However, they didn't feel well longing for what the other had. They spent day after day complaining about how unlucky they were and how their lives had lost its meaning.

One day, one of the gods heard the cries from Earth and, confused, went as fast as he could to help them. Three beautiful creatures appeared in front of him, but he didn’t understand what was happening until he dared to speak and explained he was there to help them. The three were confused and didn't know where to start, so the flying one spoke first. He wanted to swim at high speed and to be able to hold his breath underwater and to learn the secrets that the oceans jealously kept away from his eyes. The God was  amazed, he thought his wings were amazing and his plumage colors as bright as the sun but, if that was what he wanted, he was nobody to choose for him. The swimming one told the God he wanted to feel the breeze all over his face, he wished he could walk more than anything because he got  tired of the scales and fins, now he just wanted strong legs to walk among the mountains with the sun lighting his path. Once again, the God, confused, thought what a lucky animal he was because he could know the depths of the ocean like nobody else but, if that was what he wanted, he was nobody to choose for him. Finally, the one that belonged to the land said he wished big marvelous wings to fly over the trees so that he could approach to the sky and more agile eyes to enjoy life. The God, stunned, thought his big legs were perfect to guard the land, and that if his wonderful nose was as powerful as his ears, he must be the most powerful creature over the mountains.

Once they finished, the God turned them in what they strongly wanted to be but only a few time passed when they realized they missed their old body. They couldn’t believed they were wrong, they thought the change would make them happy but it actually didn’t. They desperately called the God and when he arrived they explained him they wanted to be themselves again. The God was very glad they learned the lesson and joyfully let them keep their lineage. That’s where evolution begins and that's why there are many species in the world that belong to the water, the skies and the lands, they wear their unique skins proudly as a reminder of the god and the first three species that first lived in the world.

The moral of the story is to be happy with who you are and what you have, to look at the unique characteristics each of us possesses and to never forget about how worthy we are.
