F13
It was Friday the thirteenth and the night was falling quickly. Kyle’s family had always been very superstitious so this only meant one thing for him: trouble. Kyle had told me before all of the tragic stories that had happen to him on those days. Oh boy, I can only say that if I were he, I’d also be panicking. But to be honest, I’ve never believed in those type or things. Since I knew that Kyle wasn’t going out tonight I told him that I was going to pay him a visit after dinner. I had to make him change his mind about superstition because I was planning my birthday party in a few months, and for his luck the date was also a Friday the thirteenth.
So there I was, knocking his door. Finally he opened the door and as soon as I went in he told me that his parents weren´t there nor his big brother, because they had all gone camping with a bunch of friends to the butte. We where all by our selves and that kind of gave me the chills. I never understood why they went to the butte perhaps because of Kyle’s father. He was like a cave man, very outdoorsy and into all kinds of hunting and hiking. I hated the wilderness and so did Kyle, but anyway. So I told my parents that I was spending the night at Kyle’s, we really didn’t know what we were going to do yet, but it was 8 o clock, and all seemed to be fine till that point. We were watching the late show and eating sweet caramelized popcorn when the phone began to ring. It was weird because Kyle’s parents did not have any signal and I assumed that he was not expecting any calls, he didn’t have a girlfriend or anything, so he turned to me and said:
-Hey, mind getting that?
I knew he was confused but he did not want to seem scared or paranoid, neither did I, so I went to the kitchen to pick up the phone.
As soon as I asked who it was they hung up, so I went back to the living room. I guess I had no expression since Kyle didn’t ask who it was. As soon as I was sitting down the phone rang again.
Kyle- I said, - Its your turn buddy.
He went up straight to the phone, no answer either.
Who do you think is calling you right now? – I asked
-I have no clue, maybe your parents. I don’t know. -
I knew my parents where not the ones calling, they are kind of old now and I was sure they where sleeping profoundly but I did not told this to Kyle, I did not want to make him panic just because of some stupid phone calls. At 10 we turned off the TV, the shows where lame so went to his room to play COD, but then weird things started to happen. The living room’s TV turned on by it self. I had the chills all over but had my poker face on I was determined to change his mind for superstition, so I told him it was probably Snowball his cat, who I really hated so I didn’t mind blaming him for that. In the middle of our game the lights went out, at the beginning I was mad. I was totally winning the game and we had made a bet before that, but I guess it wouldn’t count, nor matter now. I confessed that I was freaking out by that time but I tried to keep mi mind calm. Kyle was sweating I could smell his fear, but he didn’t say anything, until the light came back.
-Its´ this stupid date!- he said
- You have to chill, these kind of things happen all the time, no matter which day it is-
-Well what a coincidence- he nodded
Kyle it is all in your head, you need to know that superstition does not exist. It is just a product of your imagination-
As soon as I said that, the doorbell rang. We both screamed very loudly, I finally decided to tell him that we should both spend the night at my house, his house was for sure hunted or something. Like if anything else could have happen to us that night, on our way to my house a dog came out of nowhere and chased us! We had to run 3 blocks to get home. When we where finally there I told Kyle that I would gladly move my birthday party to Saturday the fourteenth. After that day we made a promise that we would spend all of those Friday’s together.
