Herring Bled
Pooling water laid
in patterned veins
across dry crevasse.
Sprung by current, gave,
and spread in winding path;
growing weeds while going
in circuitry-like pattern laid
by moisture striking sand.
Inspired by its flowing, the
predators returned to find
a harbinger worth sowing
into a hunter/huntsman brand.
Marks are made by lunging, fleeing;
things that can have spread by foot.
In the growing Herring Bled, there is
movement in its ruptured earth:
a seed that fell into this thirst
is stirred by the circumstance
of the crack in higher ground.
