Laughing Eyes
Walk a mile in her shoes and you’ll know the meaning of insipience
Abuse has no next of kin it anger’s the soul and provokes insolence
Gone are the carefree days of youth,
As she is introduced to things uncouth
Weariness, alertness, withdrawal and loss of innocence are things in use
After the laughing eyes and simple smiles are gone, she’s a bit abstruse
She recalls the child who outran the wind, on legs of iron and stud steel
She recalls the voices in her head, the ones that taught her, not to feel
A road- kill a gavel and done
A quarry was closed in the sun
She’s tough and she’s rough and she fights like a girl, they call her a *****
Perhaps she’s the one they called out of the game, before her great pitch
Walk a mile in her shoes and you’ll know, the meaning of always be quick
Abuse has no next of kin it’s a fast burning wax, through a fine prickle wick
Gone is that solid confidence
Though she feigns indifference
Weariness, alertness, withdrawal and loss of innocence she cannot release
After the laughing eyes and simple smiles are gone, she’s a bit abstruse
