I was late for school
In 1972
Walking along Leslie Street
I stopped to watch
Leaves gracefully fall
And
Paint the sidewalk
red, brown and yellow
And
I knelt beside
A puddle rippling outward
from drops of rain
And
Saved worms
Carried by a twig
To the grass
And
I had to go home and change
My socks and shoes
Because they got wet.
