As a shutter closes
across a lens
so moves the earth's shadow
over the moon.
It is awesome
to realize
that across space and time
huge planets move, line up,
display evidence
of their huge solidity.
Slow, deliberate movement-
predictable
like lumbering mammoths
expected to move
to the dark river.
