On the seafloor, starfish
In the heavens burn the stars
much longer than their
reflecting fireflies...
their glow snuffed by
unconscious biology teachers,
entomologists, insecticide sprayers,
mowers, bulldozers, harvesters,
builders and little children
who like to capture a slowmoving
beauty and imprison her in a glass
jar as they run off to watch tv
and her light slowly dims.
