Bulls Dozing And Caterpillars, Seeds Of The Milkweed, West Virginia Moonscape

BULLS DOZING AND CATERPILLARS

Do they call them

bulldozers

because they bother

bulls dozing?

do they call them

Caterpillars

because they

destroy

caterpillars?

to Isabelle Alliende,

working to protect

the forests of Chile

WEST VIRGINIA MOONSCAPE

Plutocrat ad coal money comes
from those who mountains scrape
who turn West Virginia into
a dead moonscape
who cause black water
to pour from fountains
who destroy animal habitat
in once jadecarpeted mountains
who pour poisons into the water
to give cancer to sons and daughters

(Mountain decapitation for coal in W Virginia
is supported by the party of the rich)

SEEDS OF THE MILKWEED

Arranged as tightly as
scales on a fish,
these tiny parachute seeds
of the milkweed
will break free from
the milkweed pod
to settle in the sod
and grow for God.

Footnote:
Richard Wilbur ignited my love of petry with his poem

TWO VOICES IN A MEADOW

-Richard Wilbur-

A Milkweed
Anonymous as cherubs
Over the crib of God,
White seeds are floating
Out of my burst pod.
What power had I
Before I learned to yield?
Shatter me, great wind:
I shall possess the field
A Stone
As casual as cow-dung
Under the rib of God,
I lie where chance would have me,
Up to the ears in sod.
Why should I move? To move
Befits a light desire.
The sill of heaven would founder,
Did such as I aspire.
