TRILLIUM TRINITIES

Mother Earth was exhausted by winter
.. in the middle of the night
.. in March.. the night of Ides

she sent up snowfrosted flags
of white surrender..
.. icicles of defeat..

an hour passed..

The Morning Sun
saw these pennants
sign of her
suff'ring penance

.. and ran His dawn
current through them..

crystals melted in
the flow of light..
they began to drip

into Mother Earth
renursing her with
hope

Now it is spring..
now the white flags
she unfurls
are trinities
of trilliums
..paeans of peace

and white violets..
violins by silent
starlight strummed
