The apple thinks it
not a cross
when he's cored
and made into
applesauce.
Nor does he cry
when made into pie.
But his father
tree..
has feelings
.. and the bees
say leave him
alone to sway in the breeze
APPLE TREE
The apple tree
does not sign
the fruit she gives entire
.. only a unique constellation
of seeds her signature
BEES
When blueberry bees
cavort in the breeze
their honey
tastes like blueberries
When peachtree bees
go where they please
their honey tastes
like peaches
When we stop eating honey
we free the bees
to do as they please

God does not

must struggle to breathe.

shake as they write
Some shake in fear..
they are beaten wives.
Some with depression
are paralyzed.
Some think themselves ugly,
fearing each pair of eyes.
Some no longer
touch or make love,
bombburned
amputees
Some sit in prisons
filled with despair
unable to move in
the springwarm air
Some writhe in
intense sciatic pain
Some in military camps
repeat "I thirst".
God keep Your promise now
to awaken in each
the fountains of joy.
Have mercy now.

Frost's baton

the treefrogs' chorus
nor snuffs
cricket choirs
They need not leave their
bodies to sing
in kinder realms
LOVE GROWS
Long past youth's
bridal procession
and lifelong
fidelity vow
profession

continues to grow

Why do we love Leonard?
Is it the rhythm..
Is it the rhyme?
as mysterious as
rain turning
to juice of lime?
the distilled brevity
of eternal truths?
or his soul... never harsh
always ruth
GOD HAVE MERCY
Myriad are the ways God
You can make us suffer.
Some cannot see their children, a sunrise,
or beautiful art
Some cannot hear the sea or
the birds or music of
Mozart
For their children some
work in drudgery
unable to do
the lovework of their hearts.
Some in stress cannot sleep.
Some for unrequited or lost love weep.
Some sit in refugee camps, homeless,
too hot or too cold.
Some sit alone and lonely
arthritic and old.
Some are ashamed that they
cannot read.
Some no longer walk
and wheelchairs need.
Some smitten with throat cancer
can no longer swallow
while others im poverty have
nothing to eat.
Some struck by strokes
cannot their souls speak
while some in each moment
must struggle to breathe.
Some with Parkinsons
shake as they write
Some shake in fear..
they are beaten wives.
Some with depression
are paralyzed.
Some think themselves ugly,
fearing each pair of eyes.
Some no longer
touch or make love,
bombburned
amputees
Some sit in prisons
filled with despair
unable to move in
the springwarm air
Some writhe in
intense sciatic pain
Some in military camps
repeat "I thirst".
God keep Your promise now
to awaken in each
the fountains of joy.
Have mercy now.
Teach all of us now how to
Lift each out of hell.

FOREST FLOWERS
Shy shaded flowers flourish
on the floor of the forest,
who, cutting no phlox or
blooming flags
is the best of all florists.
