WAYS ACROSS THE WAVES

There are many paths
up the peaks
.. myriad ways across the waves.
The apple tree produces apples
The pear tree's pears are his private
personal priority.
Each takes his own sacred journey.
All roads are holy holy holy.

BLANK BUTTON

She would
wear a blank button..
carry a blank sign
... have no opinions
for this day
*
ANONYMOUS
*
Executioners
in many states
have their
identities veiled
...
as in the name
of the state
the poor the angry
the helpless
they have impaled
*
PIER
*
The poles of the pier
enter the bay
.. hoping to bring
their steadiness
to her..
but after a few
hundred yards
they give up
*
GRIDMELT
*
thought grid
systems block the light
as
stained glass in
churches filters
sunlight
*
CUP AND WATER WHEEL
*
It is the dharma of
the cup to hold the water.
It is the dharma of the
water wheel to let go.
It is the dharma of the ocean
to hold in the depths
and let surface waves flow.
It is the dharma of one
to go north and another to
go south..
of one to be silent
and another to speak

JEALOUSY KILLS
*
With one sarcastic sentence
did the teacher critic
still for the rest of her life
the paintbrush of her young charge's heart
as Nazi boots can trample
the green tendrils of spring
*
CUP AND WATER WHEEL
*
It is the dharma of
the cup to hold the water.
It is the dharma of the
water wheel to let go.
It is the dharma of the ocean
to hold in the depths
and let surface waves flow.
It is the dharma of one
to go north and another to
go south..
of one to be silent
and another to speak

DEFENSE ATTORNEY
*
There is karma in being
a justice or a prosecutor
sitting in judgment of others.
There is much less karma
in being a defense attorney,
unconditionally loving
the hundredth lambs of
society, as guardian angels
speak before God's throne
about the sacred nature of
all God's children.

THE POET ASPIRANT DESIRES NOT TO BE JUDGED
*
Do not judge the poet aspirant
who strives
to put a forest
into a nutshell...
to wed lonely words to each
other...
.. to make nouns of verbs
and verbs of nouns
.. with adjectival trains
going off on their own tracks
to break all rules
to create eyes which hear
and ears which see
to have God's creative
power as in a dream
to reaarange space
and time
.. not to be bound
by others' meter or
rhyme
...
to turn the world upside
down..
that it be seen from another
angle..
to our identification
with other beings
expand
that we might
love and understand

FUNCTION

We are writers
if we write
We are poets
if we poem
*
STOLEN FRUIT
*
Stolen fruit is
an oxymoron..
for the tree gives
entire..
one cannot steal
what is freely given
.. what is coolforged
by sunfire
*
THOU SHALT NOT
*
Thou shalt not judge
.. thyself
Thou shalt not judge
thy Self
*
IS IT ADULTERY?
*
The river owes no fidelity to
any particular bank and yet
is faithful to all.
The attractions and magnetism
of previous lives together
can be stronger than any promise
to a newly met person. Only
God has the right to judge
if a soul chooses to honor
a many centuries vow over
a current contract.

THOMASINE GOSPEL
*
Many practices of Jesus
are recorded in the gospel
written by the former
doubting Thomas.. the apostle.

WALKED IN THOSE SHOES
*
Because she had died as
an alcoholic in a French gutter
in a life long ago
she could bave only compassion
for those who sought relief
from loneliness, the pain
of physical or mental suffering
in the anodyne
of beer or wine.
But she still judged those
who for the greed
of the bottom line
pushed booze in radio
and tv ads
on those who dine.

THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO
*
the little baby calf's
dead body was cooked in cream
... buried in a human body
muffled are her screams
*
NORTHWEST AND SOUTHEAST
*
Northwest and southeast
... each other oppose
... they have opposite paths
but they need not be foes
*
PUNISHING THE VESSEL
*
The demon jumped
into the cat
and made him
pee.. on the hat
.. and then jumped
into the woman
who punished the cat
for peeing on the hat
..
punishing the vessel
after the culprit
left

SPIRIT PINIONS 1
*
Rigid judgmental
opinions
can block the descent
of Spirit's pinions.
*
REFORMED PROSECUTOR
*
Whoever committed long ago
and once only
the crime of passion
had a few moments of once
in a lifetime spontaneous hot hate..
but the prosecutor left
his profession when he
realized..
he had had 9 months of
concentrated premeditated
cold revenge..
and so he went instead
into mediation law.
He now sought the
powers of mercury
to extend
universal mercy.

UBIQUITOUS AND UNAFFECTED
*
The sun is in bliss
and unaffected
when his ubiquitous rays
are not accepted
Yet those who have
him summarily rejected
find selves light
seeded
by what he's projected

RAVELLING
*
The wind has blown
away the cloud reveiling
.. now seen is the
none-reviling sun
with rays all-revealing
Whose dawn reveille
is new leaflace ravelling
and showering all
dewdrops with joyous revelling

TODAY'S EVIL: TOMORROW'S GOOD
*
Evil as well as good
are loved by the sun
showered by the rain
kissed by the wind
mirrored by the lake
cooled by the sea
fed by the fruit tree
given angels'
clemency
What is today's evil
is tomorrow's good
as through
the sun's love
icicle foes
begin to flow
nurturing
sour green fruit
.. icicle and sour fruit
wed to ripe and sweet

LAO TSU AND GANDHI
*
Lao Tsu's is the path of
yielding water
Gandhi's is the way
of unyielding fire.
*
IS ICE EVIL?
*
Is ice evil because
it has not yet melted into flow
Is green fruit wicked
because it is not yet juicy and sweet?
*
DO NOT THE ONE DIVIDE
*
She thanked him
for his unconditionality
and he replied.."when others
disagree
I do not like
to take sides"
as an angel gave her
the thought
