                 We Wonder where you are
to thank you for the gold sweet fruit
you did weave from distant star.

GREEN MOTHER OF PEARL

They roll free
in the mother peapod..
these green spheres..
these green pearls..
given freely
by the Mother of all Peas
the Father of all Peace

(to J Lehman and his work)

NOT ICEBERGS BUT SWANS

Swans, floating mounds of white,
glide along on the blue lake
.. though they look like icebergs
they harm none... they
do not melt into their supporting
water but rise above it.

(to Herman and MK)

CHERRYSTONES

Cherish the
hard cherrystones
.. they are the chariots
of new scarletrubycrimson
cherries..
from their boundless charity
come new
cherry trees
For them.. every year
is a jubilee

(not about shellfish who have a right to life)

LOVEDROPS

As neath the moon
the grapes do fill
and then with purple
juice do spill
so when the soul
is silent, still
do lovedrops full
fall and distil

(to Jim and Phyllis B)

LOOSESTRIFE

They insult the pinkpurple beauty
calling her loosestrife
as she from water and sky
weaves new earth life
as she spins blooming frames
for ponds and swamps and lakes

The wind decanted
the bush of lilac purple
and she was garbed
in her own sweet perfume

The trailblazer sun
killing no trees
laid the fastest gold path
across the sea

THE SUN OF EVA

The rays of the sun
of dawning Eva
melt away the evanexcent
evil of evening

PATHETIC DRIPS.

Pathetic drips.. as spring
tricks us with
a trifling trickle..
but this unheralded birth
will become a rivulet and then
a stream
and then the awesome pour
of
waterfalls' roar
(the Ganga falling over the 3rd eye on
the forehead of Shiva creates the 1st rainbow!!!)

(the waterfall of liberation into the sea of God)

(The deepest gorge in the world is the 18,000 ft. deep
one along the Brahma Putra river in Tibet..
my friend is listening to a book about a kayaker who died
there.. perhaps this
is the Ganga whose force must be diluted
by the forehead of Shiva lest it destroy the
earth)

STAR PEACE

During the midsummer fortnight
of the moon's gathering light
stars took their places
on the chessboard of evening
... yet these stars moved
not to vanquish imaginary foes...
but only in peace

SEAMIST

The seamist was
to death sunstarkissed

CONDITIONAL LOVE

Her father was told no
longer virginal was Christine..
He mistakenly thought
her no longer pristine...
no longer a marble statue
for Chapel Sistine

*
STAGE ENTRANCE

The sun gave a ray hint
and then a pink band clue
Then he popped over the rim
entering right on cue

WILLOW WISPS

On the shore near the kind....
nests are built by will of wasps
Amongst the lacy willow's wisps
one can spy the will o wisps

FOUR ELEMENTS

On rare conflicted days it seems
the wind whips, fire burns,
water drowns, and earth makes dirty.
On most days, the wind lifts sails,
fire warms, water quenches thirst,
and earth supports with its own
stability and food.

FIREFIGHTERS RAN UP AS OTHERS POURED DOWN

As the terrorized by
the thousands
down the steps
poured
the firefighters
up ran.. as the fire roared,
always courageously
facing death....
not knowing that they
were sheep
whose slaughter
was preordained
not knowing that they were sheep
whose slaughter was preordained.

WINDOWS ON THE WORLD

At the top of the world
as they did dine
they died without
an anodyne
And animals
upon whom
we dine..
have died
without.. an anodyne

(At the top of the World Trade Center
was a restaurant which looked out on
magnificent views on all sides)

ALIGHTING

When a whippoorwill
alights in a willow
is he a
whippoorwillow?

CAMELOT

A camel in an entourage
hard for him is camouflage.
After serving masters alll his life..
a most faithful mammal
does he go to Camelot?
or to auctions of camel lots?

DISTILLATION

How is it that we distil
beauty from the pain that spills
from broken hearts when night is still
and trills the song of whippoorwill

EXORCISED KITCHENS

No longer will
the maid of the scullery
chop off tiny skulls.
No longer will
the chef
the scallops scalp.

ORTOLAN

In the woods
stalkers went hunting
for the tiny tiny
ortolan bunting.

Where has gone
the sweetest song
of the murdered
almost extinct ortolan?

FOUR FLOWERS B

There was a goldmaned Leo, dandy lion.
When with two lips his love he
kissed
he forsook
his bachelor buttons.
To all the others
he said 'forget me not'
and then he tied
the marriage knot.

FOUR FLOWERS A

The sun arose
in morning glory,

wanding
violet to rose.

(to R and C Davis of Maryland)

VERONICA'S VEIL

The sun etches his
reflection
in the waters of Vail.

There are lilies of the valley
and veronica in the vale.

The faithful are told that Jesus
once imprinted His face
on devoted Veronica's veil.

(to Veronica L T)

ARAMAIC

Aramaic...
sacred and archaic...
Yet it is alive and spoken
in two villages in Syria.
studied near ancient mosaics

TECUMSEH MUSEUM

A Tecumseh museum.. on a high hill..
full of axes, scalps
and knives..
Someone enters the top floor and
walks around opening all the shutters.
From all directions
light pours in.
One is then
aware.. only of the
supernal radiance.

From that elevation in the
distance are seen puffs
from many chimneys.. all
smoking the pipes of peace.
