ST VINCENT CLOCKTOWER
Night has already fallen at six thirty..
In the dark there's lighted glow
in the 4 faces
of the church clocktower.
The hand of the minute
and of the hour
drip drip drip
in the rain
drip drip drip
their refrain
dripping away
the dirt
washing away
the bane
At some point the
invisible second
hand comes to 6
joins the other
two..
making 6 6 6
increasing the flow
of water to thirsty
flowers directly below
all numbers are holy..
as is every being
perfectly wholly
(to John P Wilson,
a saintly man who loved all)
THE BELLS OF ST MARY'S
The wind as bellows
sent a fire
through St Mary's
belltower
near its choir
But the tower
was built of brick
and metal
not of dead trees
Next dawn her bells
rang
resurrection
.. their sound
carried on the breeze
*
3 BROKEN VOWS
She heard the 3 vows
of the nuns
in their voluntary burkas
when she was young
frightened most
by celibacy
Now that she has
seen many more suns
it is the obedience
which is the most ominous.
She wants no stained glass
between her and the sun
no mediator priest
or superior between
her and the Father or Son
She wants not to be a
jack in the box
kneeling and rising
and sitting on command
not to feel that she
must be silent
because she is
clad in a woman's body
The river need
keep no vow to
the banks
as she flows
on to the Sea

3600 same work (paraphrased)
