Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, servants of pig butchering Iowa businesses, are also responsible for keeping ractopamine.
Ractopamine is given by pigkillers to captive pigs in US,
though banned in 160 countries in Europe, Russia, China, due to its harmful health effects. •
Since 1998, there have been reports of 1700 people being poisoned from eating pigs that have been given Ractopamine.
Ractopamine causes “downers” (animals who can no longer stand) and severe cardiovascular stress, tachycardia, tremors etc.
It's manufactured by Elanco Animal Health, until recently a division of drug giant Eli Lilly & Co. 60 to 80% of US pig flesh contains it. It is also given to cows and turkeys. For a long time Eli Lilly continued to produce it despite its ban in 160 countries. Lilly was sued by Center for Food Safety. Federal judge Yvonne Gonzalez allowed its continued use in animal food (I refuse to
use the human chauvinist term 'feed' for food given to animals.)
