I couldn’t have known you’d kick me into dirt
But how else would I have found I’d survive?
Long after I’ve processed the last bit of hurt
I’ll stand truly and wonderfully alive.
What else is there to do?
I guess I should thank you.
There are blessings to be sure.
None could have unfolded without you.
The day you showed me the door
Was the one I began to doubt you.
Since you left me no choice
There was no other way
But to find my own voice
And face another day.
Here I loom at my highest height
Hardly diminished by your bruise.
Now it’s fading swiftly from sight
And you’re the one who’s bound to lose.
I look in the mirror with a smile I’ve earned
And rest in sweet repose upon my bed.
I’ve got lessons I’ve learned and no one I’ve burned
Plus freedom from the rot inside your head.
I couldn’t have known you’d kick me into dirt
But how else would I have found I’d survive?
Long after I’ve processed the last bit of hurt
I’ll stand truly and wonderfully alive.
What else is there to do?
I guess I should thank you.
