Here for the Summer

The waves still crash mightily against these rocks

Making them smoother with every instance.

They alter the coastline and damage the docks,

Relentless in their feral insistence.

Still they’re steadfast after all storms and squalls,

Urging my spirit to break out the stalls.

I’ve cradled precious things just to lose them anyway –

The darkness always comes for us now and then –

But I’ve learned to stand strong and keep the worst parts at bay…

Look at me – I’m here for the summer again.

I’m putting my phone down and speaking with trees

For they’re here to greet me just as before.

I think of those who’ll not feel another breeze

And cherish this day – who could ask for more?

Keep your heart open. Believe me, it’s worthwhile –

How else can you hope to see that great sun smile?

I’ve cradled precious things just to lose them anyway –

The darkness always comes for us now and then –

But I've learned to stand strong and keep the worst parts at bay...

Look at me - I'm here for the summer again.
