In Daddy's Eyes

When the world seems to have had its day with me,

The sun setting grimly behind troubled skies,

I still remain beautiful in daddy’s eyes.

The hands of time come to cradle my face,

Inviting themselves with each line they trace,

But in daddy’s eyes I’m younger than spring.

When I say my best days are behind me –

Something I’m often wont to do –

Daddy is always there to remind me

What I say is simply not true.

Biting my lip, overcome with dread,

I fear danger on the road ahead,

Yet daddy sees the whole world at my feet

And says I can win, to never retreat.

Though some might look at me and turn away,

Snubbing me for the flavor of the day,

With me is where daddy wants to be,

And I believe him when he says he’ll stay.

To hear him tell it, I’m the prize –

For him my beauty never dies –

And nothing I say could ever dissuade him...

Would that I had sight enough to realize

The brilliance that sparkles in daddy's eyes.
