One More Beautiful Thing

Bitter truths have come to my attention,

Adversarial forces hard at work

To bring us to a state of contention,

But I will not soon forget where they lurk.

I look to you to lay the foundation,

But I’m here beside you to lend support.

It’s my job to fend off infiltration

And my joy to gently hold down the fort.

Still, should darkness trouble your weary mind

I’ve got the antidote to soothe the sting –

I’ll turn it around and respond in kind

By giving you one more beautiful thing.

It’s certain there are trials we will face,

Thunderstorms to threaten our very walls,

But before long they’ll leave without a trace,

Sunshine beaming as we break out the stalls.

If you accept my hand all will be well.

If you tell me truths I’ll face them with you.

No villain could conquer our citadel

When we give of ourselves and become two.

And should darkness trouble your weary mind

I’ve got the antidote to soothe the sting –

I’ll turn it around and respond in kind

By giving you one more beautiful thing.
