Even When We’re Dancing

It’s beyond me to reinvent the wheel,
Avoid completely paths others have taken.
For now I’ll hold your hand until we feel
Certain we’re past those which left us forsaken.

And when we misstep we must vow to live,
To continue our crusade for better days.
As long as you and I have love to give
We can be there for each other in all ways.

A standard mix of temporal and sublime
Will prove itself proper with passing time.

Let’s recline, savoring the wine we’re drinking,
This heady time of our sweet romancing.
I just thought you should know what I’m thinking -
It’s on my mind even when we’re dancing.

Don’t fear, love, it’s not that I maintain doubt,
Simply that my eyes are fixed on the prize.
These thoughts are just the fruit of finding out
This love is the greatest gift we’ll realize.

There’s precious little I can rightly promise
Without any fear of contradiction.
True, I may not know much, but here in my kiss
You’ll find I love you with pure conviction.

All we need do is let the night bring its hush
And sweetly succumb to this strong, steady rush.

Let’s recline, savoring the wine we’re drinking,
This heady time of our sweet romancing.
I just thought you should know what I’m thinking -
It’s on my mind even when we’re dancing.
