Like Water

How can you deny me as you towel yourself down?
How can you defy me when you quite nearly drown?

Quickly I get inside
Curving, cascading, drenching.
I flow in with the tide,
Your thirst mine for the quenching.

I know each tributary that leads to you,
Even the ones you haven’t found.
As long as the fact of me remains true
You won’t chart course for solid ground.

There’s no point in trying to disengage.
The direction of this stream won’t change.

I’m already part of you, fundamentally.
How long would you last without a drop of me?

Dive in, love. It’s time for swimming in my deep end.
You know it’s me upon which you’ve come to depend,
Like water.
