The temptation to look ahead draws me,
A gentle tide quietly persisting.
No matter how much the rhythm gnaws me
It remains a song that's worth resisting.
I project myself into coming years
At an unfair cost to the here and now.
I've compromised the laughter and tears,
The very gold this journey can allow.
As this midday sun tickles my back
And I take in the joy that fills the air
I know with certainty I'm back on track...
Assured, in the moment, without a care.
Too often the fears have held me at bay...
Now I stare them down and say "Not Today."
