A Mirror

You have said so much just to build me up,

Even supporting your words with actions.

All these nectars which serve to fill my cup

Still fail to conjure healthy reactions.

You see the beauty while I see the flaws,

And I’m merciless in my own critique.

What good comes of such thunderous applause

When logic fails and memory proves weak?

Again I scan my physique. Eyes travel,

Focusing in from every direction –

Mere moments and I start to unravel…

How is it in me you see perfection?

I have exhausted everything to get an objective view.

Would that I had a mirror that would let me see what you do.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This title rolled around in my head like a lump of coal turning into a diamond for over a year before I finally had the courage to sit down and try to write it. I'm so glad I waited until it was ready. The words speak for themselves. Written in December 2014, it was included in the collection “Love Has Won.”
