Everybody wants to shine
To be acknowledged
Finally first in line

A pat on the back
To say 'good job'
Nothing you lack
Making hearts throb

I like to feel appreciated
And loved for the good I do
But all too often I am forgotten
Smiles and thanks, long overdue

I want to feel special
Like you cant live without me
But alas I'm just a fixture
One you no longer see

I used to be quite purposeful
Strong, creative, and adored
Now I'm just a shadow
Of what I was before

A sliver of my past self
Is all I amount to now
I wonder if I'll make a comeback
Forgive myself and allow

One day I hope to care again
About life and people in it
But for now I'm in a shadow
To tommorow I won't commit
